Mountain Farm Solar Cape 2500

This is the second in a series of Solar Capes designed for maximum energy efficiency and optimal use of every square foot of floor area in the house. The idea is for a small home to function as well as a larger one, and to design it to accommodate photovoltaic and thermal solar panel energy systems, along with a wood stove and gas fired backup system. This design also has a 3 car garage, a family room on the second floor, a library, a master bedroom on the first floor, wheelchair circulation, a porch or two, and a choice to put the front entry on the north or the south. The house can comfortably sleep 10 people when family is visiting, and it will fit a dining table set that seats 12. The main house has 2500 SF of finished floor, before adding the breezeway. All the heat generating facilities are against the north wall, the walls can be super insulated to R-37, and it has a 9 percent glass to floor ratio; very good for energy conservation.
